I can’t say that it was the most beautiful city that I have visited; in fact Bruges in Belgium was probably closer to what I had expected Amsterdam to be like. But then again, I have constantly misjudged what the major cities were going to be like. Amsterdam is certainly an interesting city with many different personalities. There is much more to it than just the pot-smoke filled coffee shops and the Red Light District. There is a long history which reflects the Dutch spirit of perseverance and hard work.
