Off to the mountains today. I will be staying at Jugend & Familiengaestehaus (Youth & Family Guesthouse) in Salzburg Austria for the 17th, 18th, and 19th. The address is Josef Preis Allee 18, Salzburg, Austria. The phone is 011 43 662 84 26 70 (Austria country code is 43 and Salzburg city code is 662).

You can also reach my cell phone directly by dialing 011 37 25 311 6598 but remember this is an international call and it will be expensive.

Salzburg Austria

The hills are alive with the sound of music. At least they are in and around Salzburg Austria. Salzburg is the city in the foothills of the Alps where both the real Von Trapp lived and where the magical “Sound of Music” motion picture was filmed. In fact, the locals are so proud of their connection to the motion picture that the official Sound of Music tour is still the most popular tour in the city even 30+ years after the film debuted. The hostel even shows the movie every night. I have to admit that a couple of Australians and I actually sat and watched the entire 3-hour movie the first night I was there. Granted we had several beers in the process but it was still a funny. I was originally going to do that tour but the guy at the front desk at the hostel warned me that it was mostly a bus tour with “out your left window you can see where…” so I skipped that adventure. But the motion picture is just one of many interesting things associated with Salzburg.

Zurick is a midway stop between Austria and Italy since the direct train would be an 11 hour trip. Too long so I added a stop in Switzerland (plus I get an extra stamp in my passport for stopping there. I will be staying at City Backpacker / Hotel Biber – Niederdorfstrasse 5 – 8001 Zuerich – Switzerland for the 20th and 21st of August. The phone is 011 41 01 251 90 15.

You can also reach my cell phone directly by dialing 011 37 25 311 6598 but remember this is an international call and it will be expensive.
